Who WE ARE

Equity is what drives us.

The Oakland Food Policy Council is driven by our mission to establish an equitable and sustainable food system in Oakland.

Since our establishment in 2008 we have been working with community members to support a more thriving, just, fair, and inclusive food system. The Sugar-Sweetened Beverage Tax (Sugar Tax) was an opportunity to further that mission by ensuring implementation of the collected revenue would serve those most impacted by diet-related diseases linked to sugary beverages. For us, that is what it takes to build an equitable food system.

In partnership with the Sugar Freedom Project
we have actively been trying to learn more.

This website is an extension of that partnership and serves as an effort to support the City of Oakland, it's residents, and organizations we have created this website to serve as a place to share and centralize important information.

We hope that this can be a valuable resource bringing you the latest information, perspectives, and opportunities to join us in shaping a more equitable food system in Oakland.
